This is a lovely spot for a relaxing holiday in
northern Tuscany. The accommodation consists of two airy, welcoming
apartments in a carefully-converted, traditional farm building — both
have gas central heating, two double bedrooms, a large living room with
cooking area, and a bathroom with a spacious shower. There is also
access to a shared washing machine.
The large gardens are perfect for children, and for pets, which are
welcome — the farm has a fenced enclosure and two dog baskets. Although
the splendid greenery of the surroundings and the freshness of the
swimming pool (7.5 by 4m) will make you reluctant to stray, there is
plenty to do in the area.
Local activities including horse-riding, fishing, shooting and tennis,
and several sites of great interest including the Giovanni Pascoli
Museum (2km), set in the famous poet's former home. The property is also
notable for lying on the Second World War ‘Gothic Line’, only a few
hundred metres from the Allied and German fronts.
The mediæval, walled town of Barga (5km), the cave system of the Grotta
del Vento (15km) and the thermal spas of Bagni di Lucca (15km) are all
worth a visit, and the main road will quickly have you in Castelnuovo di
Garfagnana (10km) or in the unspoilt, walled provincial capital of Lucca
(40km) - a splendid, enclosed town of narrow, cobbled streets,
towers, churches and tree-lined squares.
